Pawsitive smiles

No Sedation Pet Dental Cleaning

About The process

With a no sedation dental cleaning, I start with aromatherapy and massage. Then, to stay calm, relaxed, and still, I use a swaddling technique, then I get to work checking for loose teeth, cleaning, scaling, polishing, and a rinse. If the fur baby needs a break, they are given it since this only works when they are accepting. This is a non-invasive procedure that is very similar to when we go to the dentist to get our teeth cleaned.

I had never heard of dog dentals being offered without anesthesia. I've been a vet tech, believe me you've got to be good at your job & know what you're doing to be comfortable offering such a service. I have an 80lb German shepherd. I wouldnt have been surprised if Crystal declined to work with my dog or if she asked me to get her restrained. She's a well trained dog & I knew she would be manageable for this but I have met several vet techs and groomers who are nervous because my dog a big girl and she could be a real danger to try & restrain if they had to use force. Crystal was not worried. I could tell immediately she has a way with animals. Her presentation was great! She had an adorable welcome sign out front. Did a great job cleaning my girls teeth! Gave me some professional feedback. And most importantly I know she took good care of my dog. My shepherd is a talker. I can hear it in her voice when she's nervous. I can tell when she's comfortable with a groomer or not based on her tone when we leave. She had a good time with Crystal. As she continues aging there will be a higher & higher risk with anesthesia. I never plan to put her under for a dental cleaning unless she's in pain needing an extraction. With Crystal offering this risk free cleaning I am so excited now to take her regularly & feel better knowing she's getting dental maintenance! NOT TO MENTION how affordable! I've worked at a low cost clinic where you can expect dentals to cost $150 minimum, more expensive for bigger dogs, plus whatever extractions are needed. I don't think I could be any more pleased with Crystal all around!

Brushing the Dog's Teeth

Why Should I clean my dogs teeth?

Imagine how your teeth would look and feel if you didn’t brush them daily. The same applies to your pets’ teeth. Bad breath and stained teeth are unappealing, but many pet owners aren’t aware that these may be symptoms of serious gum disease. Unless you are regularly providing some form of dental care for your pet, you are neglecting an important factor in their overall health.

You now have an alternative to the traditional anesthetic dental procedure.

According to the American Veterinary Dental Society 80% of dogs and 70% of cats by the age 3 show signs of periodontal disease. Without proper dental care for your pet they can develop gingivitis, which is plaque build-up on a cat or dog’s teeth and gums that may appear red and swollen. This can progress to further oral diseases such as periodontis and loss of teeth.
